ESG and nature-based solutions

Our projects

Conservation projects with certainty and traceability

We develop nature-based solutions that conserve and restore ecosystems, create shared social value in communities and offer companies and investors verifiable results.

Progreso Sostenible Humedales México (PSHM)

Since 2019 we have been developing a wetland and mangrove conservation and restoration project in Mexico, currently undergoing certification.

The project seeks to reduce emissions from deforestation and degradation of wetland ecosystems and to promote their sustainable management (REDD+), a key part of global efforts to mitigate climate change.

Its activities are designed in strict adherence to national and international standards and in alignment with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), generating environmental, social and economic benefits for communities.

The project is aimed at issuing high-quality carbon and biodiversity credits for compliance and voluntary markets.

Standards and certification process

Certification under Verra standards

The Progreso Sostenible Humedales México (PSHM) project, developed by CO2SFC since 2019 in the La Encrucijada Biosphere Reserve, Chiapas, is undergoing certification under Verra's Verified Carbon Standard (VCS), complemented by the Climate, Community & Biodiversity (CCB) and Sustainable Development Verified Impact Standard (SD VISta) standards.

Additionality

Assessment of climate additionality based on a baseline and a reference scenario.

Permanence

Management of the risks associated with the permanence of the carbon stored in mangroves.

Leakage

Identification and quantification of potential emissions leakage resulting from the displacement of activities to surrounding areas.

Community consent (FPIC)

Free, prior and informed consent processes covering information and participation, supported by dialogue mechanisms and documented agreements with participating communities, respecting their territorial rights and forms of organization.

ESG perspective

The project across three dimensions

E

Environmental

Conservation and restoration of 18,936 hectares of wetlands and mangroves, and reduction of emissions from deforestation and degradation (REDD+).

S

Social

16 communities in the municipalities of Pijijiapan, Mapastepec, Acapetahua and Huixtla take part in conservation and benefit from it, creating shared social value.

G

Governance

Undergoing certification under Verra's VCS, CCB and SD VISta, with indicator-based monitoring to ensure traceability.
